A 42-year-old man was found shot in a south Minneapolis alley and died early Monday, police said.

Responding to citizen reports of shots being fired, officers found the man shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday on the ground in the 3700 block of 1st Avenue S., said police spokesman John Elder.

The man was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died early Monday, Elder added. His identity has yet to be released.

No suspects have been arrested. Extra patrols on foot and in squad cars are being added to the area, Elder said.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send an anonymous tip to CRIMES (274637) and begin message with: TIP674.

This killing is the city's fourth homicide in recent days and the 39th so far this year. City officials intend to address the slayings at a City Hall news conference tomorrow. That announcement came after Friday's fatal drive-by shooting.
