Malala Yousafzai, the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, will visit Minneapolis on July 26 to speak at Target Center, the venue announced Friday.
In October 2012 when she was 15, Yousafzai was attacked and shot in the head by a Taliban fighter while riding the bus home from school in the Swat Valley of northern Pakistan.
She was brought to Birmingham, England, to receive treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and was able to return to school in March 2013. She now lives with her family in Birmingham while advocating for education for girls around the world. Her work focuses on a campaign for the right of every child to go to school.
She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 at age 17; her advocacy earned her other honors, including a nomination for the Peace Prize a year earlier. Since then, she has authored a bestselling book titled, "I Am Malala," and filmmaker Davis Guggenheim released a documentary about her in October.
At the event, titled, "An Evening with Malala Yousafzai," she will speak about her life and answer questions from the audience.
The appearance will take place on Tuesday, July 26. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. event. Tickets will cost from $33 to $153 and will go on sale at the Target Center box office and online on Monday.
