Lynx waive two players, roster down to 12

Roster now stands at 14

The Minnesota Lynx waived center Asya Bussie and guard Theairra Taylor, reducing the team's roster to 14 players.

Coach Cheryl Reeve had said Monday the team expected to waive three players. But there is further evaluation to be done. And, with injuries to top backups Devereaux Peters and Monica Wright -- and with starter Rebekkah Brunson not slated to join the team until next Monday -- Reeve kept the extra player on the roster. The Lynx will take 11 healthy players to Orlando for the three-day, two-game tournament.

The WNBA roster limit on opening day will be 12. And while the Lynx were not initially expected to carry more than 11,, that may have changed due to injuries. Wright had an arthroscopic procedure done to her left knee the Friday before training camp opened. Peters is expected to have a similar procedure Wednesday.

Bussie was a second-round pick (15th overall) by the Lynx in this year's draft. She had been limited in training camp due to a strained right quadriceps. Taylor was a former St. Paul Central and University of Iowa star who was a training camp invitee.
