The Lynx have added a 6-2 forward to their front line.

With the third overall pick in the WNBA draft, the defending WNBA champions took Devereaux Peters of Notre Dame. She averaged 11.8 points and 9.3 rebounds last season as a senior.

She is a two-time defensive player of the year in the Big East.

Notre Dame reached the NCAA title game the past two seasons.

"With the third pick, we were looking to improve out team's depth," said Roger Griffith, the executive vice president of the Lynx, in a news release. "Devereaux's tremendous energy, especially on the defensive end, will be a valuable assist for our team in the years to come."

The first two picks in the WNBA draft were 6-2 forwards Nnemkadi Ogwumike of Stanford and Shekinna Stricklen of Tennessee. Ogwumike was taken by Los Angeles, Stricklen by Seattle.

With their second pick of the first round, the Lynx took a player for the future, 6-4 center Damiris Dantas. She has played for Brazil's national team the past four seasons. She is not expected to play in the WNBA until after the 2016 Olympics.

The Lynx also had three picks in the middle of the second round, Nos. 18-20. With those picks, Minnesota took 6-0 guard/forward Julie Wojta of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 6-2 forward Kayla Standish of Gonzaga and 5-7 point guard Nika Baric of Spartak, the same Russian team that Seimone Augustus is playing for this offseason. Baric is from Slovenia.

With their final pick, No. 31 in the middle of the third round, the Lynx picked 6-0 Jacki Gemelos of Southern Cal. She had her fifth ACL surgery in the middle of this past season and won't be ready to play in the WNBA this year.

The two international picks also won't be in the Lynx training camp which starts April 29.
