A day that has already turned into a big to-do for indie music fans, this year's Record Store Day (April 16) is shaping up to be especially action-packed in Minnesota. The Electric Fetus recently announced a 4 p.m. in-store performance at its Minneapolis flagship store by Low, who are playing First Ave later that night. Meanwhile, the Fetus outlet in St. Cloud outlet will host a noon signing appearance by Slug and Ant of Atmosphere. Both Low's and Atmosphere's new albums drop next Tuesday. Also, Brother Ali has a 2 p.m. signing that day at Down in the Valley in Maple Grove, and Rhymesayers' own store, Fifth Element, will have a lot going on, too.

Now comes word that the reborn vinyl palace Hymie's Vintage Records is hosting a first-ever Hymie's Street Fair next Saturday outside its newish location, at Lake Street and 39th Avenue S, where the store reopened in time for last year's Record Store Day (so it'll be an anniversary party, too). Fat Kid Wednesdays, Molly Maher, Cadillac Kolstad, Is/Is, the Annandale Cannons and Hymie's regulars Buffalo Moon will all perform outside, and there will be an indoor stage featuring Ben Weaver, Martin Devaney, Erik Koskinen, the Humbugs and more.

On top of all the live music is all the recorded music you can buy that day. Click here to browse all the limited-edition LPs, split 7-inches and other interesting releases that the labels are serving up for Record Store. Top of my list is the Green Day/Husker Du split single (the former covering the latter's "Don't Want to Know if You Are Lonely"), the similar Mastodon/ZZ Top 7-inch ("Just Got Paid"), and the "Hormoaning" and "Whore Moaning" EPs by Nirvana and Sonic Youth. And since my CD case of Big Star's "Third" is mysteriously missing its disc, I think I might go ahead and pick up the new vinyl edition.

On a related note: One of the stores that will have a lot of these goodies -- Treehouse Records -- is celebrating its 10th anniversary this Saturday night at Hell's Kitchen with performances by Koerner & Glover, Curtiss A, Paul Metzger and the Blind Shake with a special guest (10 p.m., 21 & older, $8).
