Netflix has picked up a 10-episode first season of a "Lost in Space" reboot, which it began developing in November.
Taking its cues from the original series which aired on CBS, the show centers around the Robinson family, who is forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons.
"The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience," said Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content, in a statement. "The current creative team's reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world."

The new version hails from Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who will also serve as executive producers, along with Kevin Burns of Synthesis Entertainment. Neil Marshall and Marc Helwig of Applebox will also EP and Marshall is expected to direct several episodes.
Zack Estrin will serve as showrunner.
"Lost in Space" was most recently remade as a feature film in 1998 starring William Hurt, Matt LeBlanc, and Heather Graham. In addition, there was a pilot devleoped in 2003, which never went to series.

Legendary TV bought the rights to the properties of original series creator Irwin Allen.
