The time has come to devote the energy and funding necessary to support research and conversion to sustainable energy and a green economy ("Report: More work needed on Minnesota's green economy," May 12). America used to be a leader in innovative technology and in providing solutions to problems affecting the whole world. One factor contributing to our decline in this area was our unwillingness to think ahead. Looking for the quick fixes and short-term gains worked to grow our economy, job market and technology for a while, but it is now time for an overhaul. America, and Minnesota in particular, is perfectly poised to once again be a world leader in an area of great importance. Our vast resources, combined with our innovative spirits and hardworking attitudes, could allow us to create and produce solutions that will restore us to our status as leaders. But only if we are willing to start thinking long-term and invest time and resources into planning for the future. REBECCA STENZEL, MINNETONKA
