It is great to see that President Obama has chosen a more-than-capable nominee in Elena Kagan to succeed Justice John Paul Stevens on the U.S. Supreme Court ("Obama's court choice: Kagan," May 10). With an outstanding résumé and Harvard schooling, Kagan should seamlessly fill the vacancy. This also goes to show how America has progressed in terms of gender equality and how women are accomplishing things never fathomed as recently as a few decades ago. I would not second-guess the Kagan selection due to her gender, and I would hope the rest of the country wouldn't, either. MICHAEL RANDLEMAN, EDEN PRAIRIE
