The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) extends its deepest condolences to the family of Stephen Tyrone Johns, who died heroically in the line of duty protecting visitors at the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. There is great poignancy in the death of an African-American defending an institution dedicated to telling the story of the Holocaust -- with its contemporary applications -- against the murderous intent of a racist and anti-Semite. The JCRC appreciates the message of solidarity received from the Islamic Society of Minnesota in the aftermath of the attack, and we call on all people of goodwill to work to teach respect and fight bias.
