I dearly hope something can be done to curtail the Transportation Security Administration ("TSA expands to railroad stations and beyond," Aug. 6). It is possibly the most useless organization ever invented. Recently, I heard a newsperson mention that the agency takes a close look at people who have seeming medical issues. Perhaps that explains why screeners ripped a kidney drain out of my body; I spent several extra days in the hospital.
Then there are the scanner machines. They simply look for an accepted or generic shape. If your body does not match the generic shape, you are suspicious. The TSA will describe it differently, but it amounts to the same thing.
You will find several cases where the TSA takes some sort of credit; but likely no cases where the agency actually prevented anything. All of the weapons claimed to have been found are of the type identified by metal detectors. Anyway, if you (the public) wish to accept TSA treatment that only gives illusion of security; I guess it's your choice.
