It was just a matter of time before one of the Pedal Pubs in Minneapolis rolled over at the bottom of the hill where 1st Street joins 5th Avenue S. in a blind 90-degree curve ("2 taken to hospital after their PedalPub topples," Aug. 16). They frequently roll down the incline at an excessive speed, often in the center of the street.

The riders were lucky that they did not encounter one of the dozens of Postal Service semitrailer trucks that come down 5th Avenue every day to make the left turn onto 1st Street. Those trucks also go pretty fast, and the drivers cannot see what is coming down the hill until they are already in the curve. Near-misses occur frequently between the big trucks and cars at that spot.

Maybe it's time to reroute the semis away from that location.
