Letter of the Day: Armory article brought back great memories

June 2, 2010 at 11:29PM

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Minneapolis Armory, as it recalled many memories I have of that building and its entertainment events ("Aging wonder," June 2). While working for the Andy Frain ushering service, I was able to see the first matchup of Bill Russell vs. Wilt Chamberlain at the Armory. The National Basketball Association held this matchup to monetarily assist the Laker franchise. It was a doubleheader evening, with the Lakers playing the first game, followed by the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia Warriors. I remember that the front-row seats -- which were folding chairs -- were painted gold and were $100 per ticket. FRANK SPINNER, PLYMOUTH
