If you see a lemonade stand on Sunday, stop and buy a glass. You'll be supporting future entrepreneurs if you do.

Sunday is Lemonade Day in the Twin Cities, an effort to teach kids and teens about starting, owning and running a business.

Kids work with an adult — whether it's a parent, a community volunteer, or a teacher. They receive a backpack of information, including a workbook filled with lessons on setting goals, creating a budget, choosing a product, pinponiting a location, and finding investors.

Now it's time to put those lessons into action.

Participants get to keep the money they earn with their stand, although many donate at least a portion to charity.

Lemonade Day was started by Prepared 4 Life, a Houston-based youth nonprofit. The Liemandt Foundation, a family foundation that focuses on neighborhood and community-building on Minneapolis' northside, brought the idea here. Sponsors include the Saint Paul Saints, Grant Thornton, Creative Kidstuff and the Minnesota Restaurant Association.

Last year, 4,399 Minnesota youth participated. The goal this year is to reach 5,000.
