It was only the third gig of Lee DeWyze's first solo tour. The "American Idol" from 2010 seemed comfortable enough onstage at the Varsity Theater Wednesday — except for his patter, which I explained in my review.

He's been gigging in Chicago area clubs for several years. In fact, his repertoire included a few selections from his two pre-"Idol" indie albums, 2007's "So I'm Told" and 2010' "Slumberland," and only six numbers from his current slow-selling disc, "Live It Up."

The sparse audience included couples of varying ages, young women (and girls) with their moms, and clusters of gal pals.DeWyze often expressed his love for his fans and promised to return soon. He mentioned "Idol" only once by name -- and once referred to it as "that craziness."

Here is DeWyze's set list from the Varsity:

Earth Stood Still/ Dear Isabelle/ Sweet Serendipity > snippet of Fast Car (Tracy Chapman) / Live It Up/ Naked as We Can (Iron & Wine)/ Princess/ Pretty Eyes/ Annabelle/ Stay/ Use Somebody (Kings of Leon)/ Only Dreaming/ Beautiful Like You? Brooklyn Bridge ENCORE Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)
