The League of Conservation Voters is spending $227,000 to defeat Jason Lewis, the former radio show host who is the GOP nominee in the Second Congressional District.

Lewis is running against health care executive Angie Craig, the DFL candidate.

The League's spending will go toward five mail pieces that will go to 86,000 households, according to a news release. The group named Lewis one of its "dirty dozen," which is their moniker for a dozen candidates around the country they are focused on defeating. In 2012, all but one of the dozen lost, according to the group.

This is just the latest example of big money from outside groups pouring into the Second Congressional, one of the most competitive House races in the country. The district includes the south and east Metro.

Lewis, like many Republicans, believes overzealous environmental regulation is stifling economic growth. He wrote an op-ed for the Star Tribune in 2011 in which he said global warming's "fundamental premise looks weaker every day."
