The storm that was once Hurricane Ida will continue to unleash torrential rainacross the central East Coast through Friday. The rain will stretch from NorthCarolina to southern New Jersey today. The rain will creep northward intoFriday, reaching Boston in the late afternoon. Charlotte will dry out onFriday.The heaviest rain today into Friday will soak areas from northeastern NorthCarolina to extreme southern New Jersey. Another 2-4 inches of rain will add tototals that were measured prior to daybreak today. At least an inch of rainwill wet other parts of the central East Coast.

Flash flooding is sure to result, first in low-lying and poor drainage areas,as well as along small streams. The flood threat is not limited to places setto receive the heaviest rain into Friday. Flooding is just as likely where thestorm has already saturated the ground.

Gusty winds blowing across the central East Coast will add to the dreariness ofboth today and Friday. The winds could also easily topple trees as the groundbecomes saturated by the rain.
