Wing Young Huie portrait by Max Becherer

Back in the late 1990s, Minneapolis photographer-about-town Wing Young Huie took thousands of photos of people living, working or just hanging out along the 6 miles strip of Lake Street that bisects Minneapolis between the Mississippi River and Lake Calhoun. A selection of his engaging street pictures were shown in the windows of Lake Street businesses in 2000 and were turned into a book.

Now 60 of them are heading to downtown Minneapolis where they will be shown permanently in the city's Public Service Center, 250 S. 4th St. The photos were donated by the Harrington Company. Everyone's invited to a free reception 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 13. Huie will give informal tours and there will be free nibbles complements of Grass Roots Gourmet, Salty Tart, Gandhi Mahal, Manny's Tortas and Barbette.

Sponsored by Art in Public Places, the City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Arts Commission, the show will be open during the PSC's regular business hours: 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., Mon - Fri. Forever, just like the stamps.
