Pedicabs may soon roll along the shores of Lake Minnetonka.

Twin Town Pedicabs, which has 32 pedicabs in Minneapolis and St. Paul, is looking for Excelsior approval to join the popular lakeside tourist spot this summer -- the first suburb for the business.

"There's a lot of great possibilities there," said owner Colin McCarty, adding that the city would have no more than five pedicabs.

The City Council is drafting an ordinance to allow pedicabs. If approved this month or in early March, the pedicabs would be in downtown on Thursdays through Saturdays starting in May. Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laura Hotvet, who initiated the discussion between the company and city, said people could get a pedicab preview at the chamber's March 16 fundraiser, a 5K fun run.

Pedicabs could alleviate parking issues, connect businesses and create more tourism buzz, she said. "It will add something new and fresh."
