DFL House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher will announce Wednesday that she's picked up endorsement from the 10,500-member Laborers District Council of Minnesota.

She'll make the announcement at St. Cloud's Granite City Crossing and talk about the role the gas tax increase played in funding the bridge, according to her campaign.

While Kelliher has backing from the bulk of Minnesota's powerful labor unions, including the teachers' union, the nurses union and the union of professional state employees, known as MAPE, support from unions is not automatic for the DFL-endorsed candidate.

DFL rival Mark Dayton won endorsement from AFSCME, a state employees union, the steelworkers union, the police and peace officers union and Teamsters Joint Council 32.

Matt Entenza, the third major candidate in the DFL primary, doesn't have major support from unions but has other resources to draw upon in his bid.
