Sophomore forward Danny Kristo of North Dakota is recovering from frostbite at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Kristo, the WCHA rookie of the year last season, suffered frostbite on the toes of his right foot on Sunday. Details have not been provided.

His condition was listed as fair in a release Thursday from the hospital, but he has full use of al of his extremities.

"I'm doing fine, I'm planning on recovering as safely and as quickly as possible," Kristo said in a statement. "I'm just trying to get better day by day. I'm doing better [Thursday] than I was yesterday and I was doing better yesterday than I was the day before. I'm feeling a lot better than I was the first two days.

"I definitely feel fortunate, I definitely feel lucky. I want to say thanks to the fans and friends and family members who have prayed for me."

His father Mark, according to the same news release, said: "Our family wants to express out sincere gratitude for all of the thoughts and prayers from his friends, supporters and the Sioux family during these past few days."

Kristo is expected to go to his parents' home in Eden Prairie for a while after his discharge before rejoining the team.
