Tetons' record-breaking year

A record number of visitors went to Grand Teton National Park in 2014. Park officials report that over 4.29 million people entered the park last year, with nearly 2.8 million of those making a recreational excursion. Visitation peaked during July, with more than 686,000 people touring Grand Teton.

Show features Selma photos

First came the movie; now the exhibition. "Freedom Journey 1965: Photographs of the Selma to Montgomery March" opened at the New-York Historical Society in New York last week. It follows the civil rights march through the photographs of Stephen Somerstein, a 24-year-old picture editor at his college newspaper in New York. The photos are on display through April 19.

Hotel check-in

For the budget skier, a shiny hostel in B.C.

The Cube opened its doors in Revelstoke, British Columbia, last January, its Mondrian-patterned exterior hinting that this wasn't a traditional backpacker's hostel like the one that sits just two blocks away, with its warren of rooms housed in a big, creaky Victorian. The Cube fancies itself a newer, hybrid take on lodging, offering fewer comforts than a regular hotel, but more amenities than a hostel. The goal? To target those who want some of a hotel's comforts and privacy, but who also like a hostel's conviviality and pricing. The Cube is in a great location near downtown Revelstoke, a onetime railroad community with a mountaineering addiction. The 17 private rooms can sleep two to four people, and four other dorm-style rooms have multiple bunks. All the rooms are half-bath (sink and separate toilet), which is fine for most needs. Individual shower rooms are down the hall. Rates are from $88 Canadian for a double room. A bed in a dorm room is $34 Canadian. More info: www.cubehostel.ca; 1-250-837-4086.New York Times
