U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, got a courtesy visit Thursday from Solicitor General Elena Kagan, President Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court. Kagan's been making the rounds. By most reports, she's charming everyone she meets – at least on the Democratic side of the aisle. After the meeting, Klobuchar reported that they discussed Kagan's ability to separate the roles of "advisor and advocate" from the role of a judge. "We talked about recusal and in what situations it would be appropriate," Klobuchar said. "I asked her about her respect for precedent and how the wide variety of life and legal experience she brings to the Court would influence her as a Justice." Klobuchar said Kagan's answers were "candid, straight-forward, and informative." Sen. Al Franken, also on the Judiciary Committee, is likely coming up on Kagan's rounds in the Senate.
