Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi, one of the breakout stars of 2009 with the smash "Day 'n Nite," will be performing Oct. 1 in Minneapolis. But the gig is open to only current University of Minnesota students. It's a homecoming event, and even alums aren't welcomed. Tickets, which cost a reasonable $10, will be sold only to students with valid U of M UCards – one per customer. If you go to the outdoor concert at 9:30 p.m. in the Maroon Parking Lot (near TCF Bank Stadium), you must show a valid current Ucard to get in, a separate current photo ID and wear a wristband, which you can pick up at Coffman Union or St. Paul Student Center if you received an e-mail confirming your ticket purchase. About 4,500 tickets will go on sale at Saturday. For more info, go to www.homecoming.umn.edu. In other concert news, Rodrigo y Gabriela, the explosive Mexican guitar duo, have canceled their fall tour, including an Oct. 5 concert at the State Theatre. Gabriela Quintero, who plays a physical, percussive style of guitar, has been ordered to rest because of the stress caused on her right arm. Refunds are available at place of purchase. Justin Townes Earle, who was scheduled to return to town on Oct. 9 at First Avenue, has postponed some fall concerts while he goes to rehab. He was arrested in Indianapolis last week and charged with public intoxication, battery and resisting arrest. First Avenue is offering refunds at place of purchase. After modest attendance at shows by Pavement and Flaming Lips at Roy Wilkins Auditorium, promoters AEG LIve have decided to move the Oct. 3 Black Label Society concert from Wilkins to Epic in downtown Minneapolis. Richie Havens has bowed out of his two-night stand at the Dakota due to illness, and cabaret darling Nellie McKay will fill those slots on Oct. 17-18.
