Progress on the new Lafayette Bridge continues this week as new beams are hoisted into place. That will bring overnight closures to Kellogg Blvd. from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said.

Kellogg Blvd. will be closed between Broadway Street and Mounds Blvd. Westbound motorists will be detoured onto Mounds Blvd, to E. 7th Street to Jackson Street. Eastbound drivers will be routed onto Sibley Street, E. 7th Street and Mounds Blvd.

Work on the new bridge began in 2011 and will continue through next year. When finished, the Hwy. 52 bridge will provide two through-lanes and an auxiliary lane in each direction for entering and exiting traffic. The project also includes the modification and realignment of the Hwy 52 bridges over I-94. When completed, the new northbound Lafayette Bridge will include a pedestrian and bicycle crossing over the Mississippi River.

The work on Hwy. 52 also includes re-decking of the Plato Boulevard and Eaton Street Bridges and resurfacing of the Concord Street Bridge. The work on Plato Boulevard, Eaton Street and Concord Street has been completed.
