Keeping tabs on Thursday's morning commute

Good morning, commuters!

Today's drive to work should not be as nightmarish as Wednesday, but our visit to the deep freeze could leave patches of black ice on the roads. Yep, it's that cold out this morning.

"Frigid temps can cause slick road conditions. Beware the black ice. Slow down. Is a bad day to end up in a ditch," tweeted Kevin Gutknecht, a MnDOT spokesman.

A driver on northbound I-694 at 40th Street in Oakdale probably agrees. A vehicle slid off the road and into the center median.

I'll be keeping an eye on the roads and rails this morning, reporting any delays or issues — and I will need your help.

If you see or hear about any congestion, delays or problems, e-mail drive@startribune or tweet @stribdrive.
