A broken engagement ring proved foreshadowing for the wedding plans of KARE 11 colleagues Rena Sarigianopoulos and Jonathan Malat.

"Jonathan and I stopped seeing each other this past summer," Sarigianopoulos said last week. "So it's actually been some time."

That's her way of saying This is old news, girl. It seems SOMEBODY didn't live up to her commitment to keep me updated on the engagement. TV viewers/readers have been keeping a watchful eye on that ring finger. When the missing ring sightings persisted, I followed up.

Sarigianopoulos claims the relationship went ka-boom shortly after I saw her working the Justin Bieber story, a sighting at which I recall the ring was missing, although she claims to have still been wearing it.

"It was the eternal engagement," said Sarigianopoulos, a weekend anchor and reporter, who accepted a proffer of marriage from "an award-winning, wonderful photojournalist," as she described Malat, in 2008.

"We must have broken up shortly after [our paths crossed on Bieber detail]. You know, the week before I broke up, the ring actually broke and we had to get it fixed. I know, I thought that was ironic. For the sake of everyone's privacy, I'd rather not talk [specifics]."

How's seeing him at work? "We're both mature adults," she said. "It's all good."

Informed that office romances are the height of laziness, she just laughed.

Adding insult to injury

While interviewing Twin Cities traffic reporter Juli Jay on video about her convalescence with a severely broken leg, there was one question she dodged: She declined to give up the names of the friends present the day of the freak accident that she said took place outside of a restaurant. The suspicious reporter in me wanted to hear someone's version of events beside Jay's.

Her arrest last week on suspicion of DWI raises even more curiosity about the leg-breaking mishap, especially after finding out Jay pleaded guilty to a 2005 DWI. To say nothing of me dying to know if Jay had taken that removable cast off her right foot or was driving allegedly impaired using her LEFT foot on the accelerator and brake. That's hard enough to do when you're stone cold sober! And where were the crutches?

Also curious about what, if anything, was going through Jay's mind while that fairly glamorous mug shot, with the bad girl aura, was snapped? She still has not responded to texts or a phone call, but who came blame Jay as her rehabbing needs multiply.

Magic wants the Vikes?

"IS THIS PROOF THAT MAGIC JOHNSON IS TRYING TO BUY THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS?" yelled a Hiphollywood.com headline.

Below it was a photo of a private plane that Hiphollywood.com says RumorFix.com has confirmed is the same Vikings jet sent to retrieve Brett Favre from Mississippi a few months ago.

"What was the jet doing in LA this weekend, just hours before the Vikings were getting set to play the Buffalo Bills in Minneapolis? Magic Johnson is said to be in the market for an NFL team and the Vikings are allegedly one of the teams Mr. Johnson is considering purchasing. So it makes total sense that Vikings officials would fly into Van Nuys Airport, because it just happens to be the same place where Magic houses his plane!" reads Hiphollywood.

So far, there's been no report of Johnson being here for that game. For my money, this looks like part of the ploy to get the public to pay for most of a new stadium. Minnesota is always going to have a football team, so why steal ours when the NFL knows it will have to be replaced?

Hiphollywood's item makes you wonder if it's connected to the VIP or VIPs who got a marked police car limo escort to the Dome before the game. The Vikings tell me owner Zygi Wilf was not in the limo.

But was his jet really at the Van Nuys Airport? Still awaiting a response to that question.
