Kara DioGuardi/ Associated Press Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell have a lot in common right now: They have left "American Idol," will be involved in a new TV talent show and have the same cop-out answer about this year's "Idol" without them. "I haven't watched an [entire] episode; I've seen bits and pieces of it," DioGuardi said the other day from her Los Angeles office. "It looks like they're having a great time. I'll probably watch it more when it goes live." That would be next week. DioGuardi phoned to hype several of her new projects, including the reality show "Platinum Hit," in which she and Jewel will delve into the songwriting process. "I'm not sure that people know that songwriting is an actual job that you can make money from," DioGuardi said. "It's a competition reality show. For one week, it's write a dance anthem where contestants have 30 minutes to write a chorus and we judge the choruses and the top three get to pick their teammates and finish those songs and they get judged. It's based strictly on the song, not the contestants' performance." She thinks the show will debut in June on Bravo. DioGuardi, who is a talent exec at Warner Bros. and hit songwriter, also wanted to plug a jingle contest with Folger's. The public is asked to put their own spin on the classic "Best Part of Wakin' Up" jingle for a chance to win $25,000 and a mentoring session with DioGuardi. The deadline is March 1. Meanwhile, DioGuardi also has written a memoir about her songwriting career, "A Hell of a High Note," with tales of penning songs for Christina Aguilera (Ain't No Other Man), Britney Spears (Ooh Baby Baby), Carrie Underwood (Mama's Song), Kelly Clarkson (I Do Not Hook Up) Pink (Sober), Celine Dion (Taking Chances), Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and Darius Rucker, among others. The book will be published April 26 by Harper Collins. To promote it, DioGuardi will perform concerts of her songs in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville. Yes, she was once a recording artist, as well.
