Kangas tries not to worry about Gophers scoring -- or not

Gophers coach Don Lucia said Saturday may have been goalie Alex Kangas' best game. He kept the score close, until Minnesota exploded for three goals late in the second period.

Alex Kangas, after the Gophers' 5-1 victory over North Dakota on Saturday, said he has just been trying to focus on what he can do and not worry about whether his teammates were scoring goals or taking penalties.

"[I] just focus on me every night," the junior goalie said, "and get better each and every game."

He said Tony Lucia made a great individual play, blocking a Sioux shot and scoring on a breakway, to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead. "He has done that all year," Kangas said. "He has been a great leader for us all year and he buried that goal and it was all downhill from there.

"We got that one [from Jacob Cepis] right after that. It was a pretty relaxing third period."

Randle was a strong candidate to play in the All-Star Game on Sunday, but was not chosen and will head to the beach instead.
