June Gloom refers to all the cloudy weather that occurs along the West Coast atthis time of year. This happens because marine air is being pushed toward thecoast due to a difference in pressure. The pressure gradient is the product ofheating through the interior, while the ocean remains cool.On most days, a low overcast persists on the coast through the morning, thenthe sun is able to break through in the afternoon. When the marine push isdominant enough, it simply stays cloudy all day.

The whole scenario explained above will take place along the California coastagain Friday. The coast will start cloudy and foggy, then clearing will occur.

Through the interior Southwest, there is no such thing as June Gloom. It willbe sunny all day Friday, as it usually is, with highs topping 110 in thedeserts.
