LAS VEGAS — Joe Gibbs Racing is shuffling its crew chief lineup as it expands to a new fourth team to accommodate addition Carl Edwards.

Darian Grubb will shift from Denny Hamlin to Edwards; Dave Rogers will shift from Kyle Busch to Hamlin; Adam Stevens will be Busch's new crew chief; and Jason Ratcliff will remain with Matt Kenseth in the only untouched driver-crew chief combination.

In the second-tier XFINITY Series, Eric Phillips will crew chief the No. 18 Toyota driven by Daniel Suarez.

Chris Gayle will crew chief the No. 54 Toyota driven by multiple drivers, and Mike Wheeler, will lead the No. 20 Toyota driven by multiple drivers.

JGR President J.D. Gibbs said Thursday the expansion forced the organization to "take a step back and evaluate each of our teams and make decisions that we feel are best for our organization long term."

Stevens moves to the Sprint Cup Series after spending the last four as crew chief for JGR's Nationwide cars. He has 31 wins and 95 top-10 finishes in 124 races as a crew chief.

Wheeler has been with JGR since the end of 2002 and was engineer for Hamlin's team when it formed in 2005. He will now get his first shot as a crew chief in the XFINITY Series.

It means an overhaul to the team that nearly won the championship with Hamlin last month. Hamlin made it to the final four of NASCAR's playoffs and was in the race to win the championship in the final race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Grubb was his crew chief and Wheeler was his engineer. Hamlin ultimately finished third in the championship race, but had a shot to race for the win at the end.

"The communication between me and Dave is probably going to be a little higher than it was with Darian," Hamlin said Thursday of his acquisition of Busch's former crew chief.
