And now they are the Remaining 6ix.

The group formerly known as the Time that reemerged last fall as the Original 7ven has lost a member. Guitarist Jesse Johnson bowed out Dec. 15 via a Facebook posting — the day after a long full-band conference call during which he didn't tip his hat.

Maybe the indifference — dare we say boredom? — Johnson showed at the State Theatre on Nov. 5 was a sign.

In his posting, Johnson said: We simply don't see eye to eye on anything. Love the guys, but I feel in my heart it's "Time" to walk away while we're all still friends."

After letting the air clear during the holidays, the Original 7ven posted a long explanation on its Twitter account (@theoriginal7ven) today.

Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jellybean Johnson, Monte Moir and Jerome Benton indicated that they will continue to promote their 2011 comeback album, "Condensate," but will not "replace" Johnson, one of the most gifted guitarists to emerge from the Twin Cities scene. However, they will hire someone to play guitar for their gigs.

The Originals didn't tip their hats about a change in moniker.
