James Sewell Ballet

Get in the mood for Halloween as JSB revisits its zombie apocalypse piece "Grave Matters" as part of its fall season at Cowles Center. Titled "New Moves," the concert includes a new collaboration with Steven Rydberg and the Zeitgeist new-music ensemble, courtesy of a Schubert Club grant, and features the pas de demux from the 19th-century ballet "Le Corsaire," loosely based on a poem by Lord Byron. Finally, if you didn't get a chance to see Joanna Kotze's "The rest of everything" at last year's Ballet Works Project, you'll have a chance to see it on the main stage, with costumes by Sonya Berlovitz. (8 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 2 p.m. Sun., Cowles Center, 528 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. $30-$36. 612-206-3636 or thecowlescenter.org.)

Seán Curran

The Irish step-dance-trained choreographer, who was a lead dancer with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company and in the original cast of "Stomp," is touring his East-West mash-up "Dream'd in a Dream." Curran traveled to Central Asia with his company as cultural ambassadors of the U.S. State Department. There they connected with Ustatshakirt Plus Ensemble, a group that preserves traditional Kyrgyz music. That group performs with Curran's company in a work exploring Walt Whitman's "City of Friends." (8 p.m. Sat., Northrop, 84 SE. Church St., Mpls., $38-$58, 612-624-2345, northrop.umn.edu.)
