Italian poet Tiziano Fratus will be in Minneapolis this week to mark the occasion of the U.S. publication of his collection, "Creaturing," translated by Francesco Levato. Fratus is well-known in Europe, with eight books of poetry, but is only beginning to get a following in the United States. The event will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Open Book, 1011 Washington Av. S., Minneapolis.

• Peter Schilling's novel, "The End of Baseball," published in 2008, is now available in paperback. Schilling will read at 5 p.m. next Sunday, April 11, with Doug Grow, author of "We're Gonna Win, Twins!" (They're calling the double-reading -- at Magers & Quinn, 3038 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. -- a double-header.)

• "Superbug: The Fatal Menace of MRSA," by Maryn McKenna, has been published by the Free Press. McKenna, who lives in Minneapolis, is an award-winning science writer and the author of "Beating Back the Devil." Her new book looks at the spread of a deadly pathogen.

• "Emma's Poem: The Voice of the Statue of Liberty," a picture book by Linda Glaser, with illustrations by Claire A. Nivola, has been published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Glaser lives in Duluth.

• "Split," a young-adult novel by Swati Avasthi, has been published by Knopf/Delacorte/Dell. Avasthi lives in the Twin Cities and is an MFA candidate at the University of Minnesota.

• The latest issue of Tales of the Unanticipated, a journal of science fiction and poetry, has been published. The journal is published locally and includes work by writers from the Twin Cities as well as around the world.

• Having the Minnesota Twins move out of the Metrodome has proven a boon for the book biz. Now comes "162-0: Imagine a Twins Perfect Season," by Dave Wright of St. Paul, published by Triumph Books.

• "Death and Afterlife: A Theological Introduction," by Terence Nichols, has been published by Brazos Press. Nichols is professor of theology (and former department chairman) at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

• "Aunt Mary's Rose," a picture book by Minnesota's Douglas Wood, illustrated by artist LeUyen Pham, has been published by Candlewick Press.

• "The Silent Governess," a historical romance by Julie Klassen of St. Paul, published by Bethany House, is a finalist for the ForeWord Reviews book of the year, as well as a Minnesota Book Award. The Minnesota award will be announced April 17, and the ForeWord winner will be announced in May.
