LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Preseason continued to progress well for the Timberwolves on Saturday night, when they beat the Miami Heat 101-96 at the KFC Yum! Center.

The Wolves improved to 3-1 and play again Sunday, at Oklahoma City.

Andrew Wiggins scored 23 points on 9-for-16 shooting for the Wolves. Reigning Rookie of the Year Karl-Anthony Towns scored 16 points and had 14 rebounds.

Coach Tom Thibodeau went 10 players deep with his rotation, playing Kris Dunn, Shabazz Muhammad, Nemanja Bjelica, Cole Aldrich and Brandon Rush off the bench.

Gorgui Dieng, playing in his college arena, scored 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting for the Wolves. Dieng helped Louisville win the national championship in 2013 under coach Rick Pitino.

Ricky Rubio added 10 points and six assists for the Wolves, who outrebounded Miami 51-36 but also turned the ball over 21 times.

Down 58-51 at halftime, the Wolves took control with a 32-18 third quarter, when they shot 10-for-16 from the floor and 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. They began the quarter with a 14-2 run, getting a Rubio three-pointer, a Towns putback and a Wiggins dunk in the opening minutes. Wiggins scored 11 points in the quarter.

Miami shot 5-for-16 from the floor and 7-for-11 from the line in the quarter.

Rodney McGruder scored 15 points for Miami (3-2), and Keith Benson and former Wolves guard Wayne Ellington scored 14 and Dion Waiters had 13.
