A woman died in an Iron Range house fire, and her husband and son were badly burned, authorities said.

The blaze at a home in the 5700 block of Mesabi Avenue in Mountain Iron was reported to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office about 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Deputies arrived to find the home engulfed in flames, the Sheriff's Office said.

Killed was Ginnie L. Hanka, 57. Her husband, 61-year-old David M. Hanka Sr., was in critical condition at a hospital burn unit but was expected to survive, the Sheriff's Office said in a Monday afternoon update.

Their son, 25-year-old David M. Hanka Jr., was at the same hospital in serious condition.

Although investigators continue to look into the fire's origin, the blaze "is not expected to be criminal in nature," according to a Sheriff's Office statement.
