Irmen recalled from Houston for possible NHL debut

The Wild has promoted former Gophers forward Danny Irmen

Good morning. I'll update this blog after the morning skates, but the Wild has confirmed that it has recalled former Gophers forward Danny Irmen.

If Irmen plays tonight against Phoenix, it would be Irmen's NHL debut. I've got to look up the details, but I'm pretty sure my memory's correct on this: Irmen was recalled on an emergency condition into Chicago in the second half last season because there was a chance Andrew Brunette wasn't going to be able to play after originally hurting his knee. But Brunette played, so Irmen's debut never came into fruition.

This is just a guess, but I think it will finally come to be tonight. Salary-cap room right now with the Wild is so precious, I just don't think you bring him up unless he's here to play. If Irmen's in and everybody is healthy other than the known injured guys -- Kobasew, Sykora and Pouliot -- there would be one healthy scratch tonight.

OK, I'll be back after the skates. Have a good day.

The Wild’s Brock Faber played in the 2022 Games in Beijing when he was still at the University of Minnesota and NHL players stayed at home. In 2026, he’s back.
