IPAD PRO
$799 to $1,079

New iPad Pro could replace your laptop

The new iPad Pro is pricey, but the technology has finally advanced to the point that it can be your laptop.

It has a bigger screen at 12.9 inches (Apple sells laptops with similarly sized screens), can show two apps at once and has a few new accessories that make it even more compelling.

You can configure the iPad Pro with 32 or 128 gigabytes of internal storage. Pricing is $799 for the 32gb model and $949 for 128gb. You can add a cellular radio to the 128gb model to bring it up to $1,079. Those prices are right in the range of the MacBook Air.

The main camera has an 8-megapixel sensor with a five-element f/2.4 lens and can record 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second. The larger screen makes the iPad Pro a great movie viewer, and there are two stereo speakers on either side of the display.

Steve Jobs was anti-stylus, but the $99 Apple pencil should do the trick for artists. Apple also took a page from the Microsoft Surface playbook and released a cover with a built-in keyboard; the Smart Keyboard costs $169.

Apple also introduced a new $29 SD card reader that connects via the iPad Pro's lightning port, allowing users to import photos or videos from their cameras directly to the iPad Pro. The $4.99 iA Write Pro App allows for quick content creation.

The iPad Pro does weigh more, and can be bulky, especially in portrait mode. That, along with the price, could make some people think twice.

MOPHIE POWERSTATION
$40

Backup power for your phone in a thin package

Mobile games, streaming videos and other apps can be huge battery hogs. Enter a backup power source. For its latest generation of Powerstation portable batteries, Mophie has slimmed down the package while bulking up the selection.

The new line comes in five sizes, offering one to eight times extra battery life; all but the smallest ($40) come with dual USB ports for charging two devices at once. The Powerstation's thinner design and aluminum finish make it easy to grip. An LED indicator lets you know how much power is left, or you can use Mophie's power management app.
