Inmate dies at Dakota County jail, authorities say it was suicide

November 1, 2016 at 4:50AM

A 37-year-old man arrested last week on charges of domestic assault reportedly took his own life while in custody, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office said.

The inmate, of Eagan, was found in his Dakota County jail cell by a correctional deputy during rounds just before midnight on Friday, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Lifesaving efforts were started by jail staff and later by medics and deputies, but were unsuccessful.

Eagan police had arrested the man Thursday on charges of felony domestic assault.

"Initial information indicates that all jail procedures and protocol were followed by staff," the news release said.

The Sheriff's Office, Hennepin County Medical Examiner and the state Department of Corrections are investigating.
