If it seems like fireworks have been around since the United States has been a country, it's because they have. Early settlers brought their love of fireworks with them to the New World, and made them part of the first Independence Day. The rest, as they say, is history. Fireworks have come a long way since the days of John Adams, but they're still impressive, and still an integral part of our July 4th celebrations. Thanks to these readers who sent in pictures of their favorite sparklers.
From left: Stephanie Yant of Andover took this photo about 10 years ago at Sand Creek Park in Coon Rapids. “I set timers on all of the photos in order to capture as much time in the air as possible. The results were spectacular!” Friends (and neighbors) Cassie Max, left, and Olivia Seigler watch the fireworks over Mitchell Lake in Eden Prairie, a long-standing tradition with the Max and Seigler families. Mom Jennifer Max sent in the photo. Sarah Lilja of Maplewood caught the frenetic energy of fireworks — not an easy task. (The Minnesota Star Tribune)
