Authorities on Thursday identified the man who was found shot to death in a car in a north Minneapolis neighborhood.

Darnell L. Wilkes, 25, of Brooklyn Park, died Tuesday from a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

No arrests have been made.

Wilkes was found about 12:20 p.m., slumped behind the wheel of the car in the 1000 block of Sheridan Avenue N., police said.

A man who came upon the scene said the car was riddled with bullets. It had no license plates, but had a temporary license permit on the rear window.

The medical examiner's office has yet to say when Wilkes was shot. Authorities have offered no motive for the shooting.

The death was the city's second homicide of the year. The first victim was a 20-year-old man who died after being shot at a New Year's Eve party in Dinkytown.
