Icy Minnesota roads were a factor in two separate crashes that left three people dead Tuesday and Wednesday, the State Patrol reported.

Wednesday at 7:45 a.m., the driver of a 2010 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on Hwy. 169 near Ely when the vehicle drifted right, then overcorrected to the left into the eastbound lane. The Camry collided with a 2005 Dodge Ram.

The driver of the Camry, Nina Haaversen, 51, of Ely, was killed.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, Aaron Nickolson, 37, of Ely, was transported to Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, according to the patrol.

Three people were involved in a separate fatal crash Tuesday evening when a sport-utility vehicle collided with a semitrailer truck near Littlefork, the patrol reported.

About 4 p.m. Tuesday, the driver of a 2007 International was traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 71 near Hwy. 65 while the driver of a 2006 Pontiac Torrent was headed north.

Dyan Vizenor, 40, of International Falls, Minn., was driving the Torrent when it drifted right, then overcorrected left into the semi's lane where they collided.

Vizenor and passenger Eleanor Jourdain, 40, also of International Falls, were killed.

The semi's driver, Darrell Rahier, 59, of Effie, Minn., was taken to Falls Memorial hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life threatening.
