After a one-week reprieve, west metro motorists once again will have to deal with a weekend shutdown on part of Hwy. 100, along with a closure of southbound Interstate 494 through Plymouth and Maple Grove.

Elsewhere, Blue Line light-rail riders can expect longer travel times as Metro Transit does maintenance work in the tunnel at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Trains will run every 15 minutes on Saturday and Sunday; they normally run every 10 minutes. Buses will replace trains from 10 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Monday between the Mall of America and 28th Avenue stations.

The sports and special events schedule is light, but do look for extra traffic in downtown Minneapolis as the Timberwolves play a preseason game at Target Center at 7 p.m. Friday. The Nitro Circus Live takes over the arena Saturday night. In St. Paul, the NHL's Wild hosts the Anaheim Ducks at 5 p.m. Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.

Here is where road work will impede traffic:

• Both directions of Hwy. 100 between I-394 and Crosstown Hwy. 62 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Lane and ramp restrictions will kick in at 9 p.m. Friday. Crews will be reconstructing the Cedar Lake Trail bridge over Hwy. 100. Motorists will be detoured to Hwy. 169, Crosstown and I-394. Trail users will be able to cross Hwy. 100 by using an existing trail on Beltline Avenue and Hwy. 7 and a temporary trail from Hwy. 7 back to the Cedar Lake Trail.

• Hwy. 7 over Hwy. 100 and between Woodale and Beltline avenues is closed until next fall. The new Minnetonka Blvd. bridge opened two weeks ago and using Excelsior Blvd and Louisiana Ave is the recommended detour.

• Southbound I-494 will have a complete closure from the I-694/94 Interchange in Maple Grove down to I-394 from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers can take eastbound 694 to southbound Hwy. 169 to westbound 394 to get around the closure.

• The County Road 96 bridge over I-35W closed Wednesday and will remain closed for the next couple of weeks.

• Hwy. 10 in Ramsey: Delays near Armstrong Boulevard through late October. Armstrong Boulevard is closed north of Hwy 10.

• Hwy. 13 between Mendota and Lilydale: Closed between Second Street and Lexington Avenue. The detour is via Hwy. 110 and I-35E.

• I-35E in St. Paul and Little Canada: Lane and ramp closures between I-694 and the Cayuga Bridge. The biggest potential traffic tangler: The left lane of northbound I-35E between Larpenteur Avenue and County Road B will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday until early Sunday. The ramp from southbound I-35E to southbound Hwy. 52 and eastbound I-94 is closed through early November.

• I-35E in Vadnais Heights: Both directions have overnight lane restrictions between I-694 and County Road 96.

• Hwy. 169 in Jordan: Single lane between Hwys. 21 and 282 with a speed limit of 45 mph through late October.

• Hwy 61 at 202nd St./County Rd 50 in Forest Lake will have intermittent lane closures and flagging operations between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.
