Hugo roundabout is topic of meeting

May 4, 2013 at 9:44PM

Construction plans for a new roundabout this summer at the junction of Hwy. 61 and 170th Street will be the topic of an open house from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Hugo City Hall, 14669 Fitzgerald Av. N.

Staff from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will outline the project and answer questions.

Project layouts and other information about the second roundabout to be built in the city will be on display.

The $1.4 million project is scheduled to start June 10.

Hwy. 61 and Hardwood Creek Trail will remain open, but 170th Street and County Road 4 will be closed at times until construction is completed in September.

The single-lane roundabout will replace an intersection where crashes are frequent, according to MnDOT, resulting in an average of five people being injured a year.

Studies show roundabouts improve safety and fuel efficiency and ease traffic flow.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
