U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan today announced that his department was awarding Minnesota $21,457,685 to renew funding for 163 homeless programs. They are part of a $1.5 billion in awards across the country to continue to operate housing and homeless service programs in 2012.

The biggest grants in Minnesota were $1.88 million to the Metropolitan Council and about $1 million to the Wilder Foundation.
In a press release, Donovan said "The grants we're awarding today will literally keep the doors of our shelters open and will help those on the front lines of ending homelessness do what they do best."
