The wind beneath so many others', Kevin Robert DeVaan took wing December 14, 2012.

Taken by heart attack at age 56, Kevin passed in the arms of his beloved wife Connie, she his last and lasting sight, his lead to the light.

Theirs is a love story for the ages, and he was a man of intense love and great story.

A favorite was his hole-in-one in 2006.

Other hobbies included pheasant hunting, bird watching and snowmobiling. The Snowmobilers of the Northland 300, celebrating their 25th anniversary as the signature event fundraiser for the Special Olympics, will memorialize Kevin at their Opening Ceremony and Victory Banquet in January.

Among his many other charitable endeavors, perhaps most dear to him was his service to his alma mater and final resting place, St. John's University.

Active with the SJU Alumni Board, Kevin envisioned and helped launch the Benedictine Bar Association, and delighted in attending the President's Dinner for the College of St. Benedict and SJU the night before his death.

He was accompanied by his son and sister that evening, and that is what speaks to Kevin's greatest passion – his love of family.

One of six close siblings, he was adoring Dad to Chris, Angie and Brady, precious Papa to Lilly and Aaron, and treasured friend to many who were family in his presence.

A trusted business associate and advisor, Kevin had recently realized a lifelong dream in launching the Fiduciaries Risk Retention Group, a business of his own in partnership with childhood friend Jim.

But it was the timeless love he shared with Connie that brought him greatest joy.

Her Christmas gift to him – a watch – bears the slogan "Live Your Passion." Kevin did just that, every minute, every day. His spirit soars among us.

This is not The End.

Watch.
