Remember Charles Grodin? He had a brief vogue in the 80s, thanks to a few movies and some "quirky" talk-show appearances. He was the go-to guy for Oddball Smart, but then he made about 47 "Beethoven" movies before he walked away from movies when his son reached first grade. Seriously:
Well, that rules out the remake of "Around the World in 80 Days." And more:
But apparently there's talk of Grodin reprising his fine, fine role in "Midnight Run." He says he will consider it, but the interview notes he doesn't like the traveling and the waiting, and prefers to spend his time advocating for reform of laws that impose long prison terms on first-time offenders.
Sounds like he's found a new life, and you have to respect that. Some guys would be hanging around the pool trying to get producers to read the script for "Midnight Run 4" by now. Okay, DeNiro and me take the Space Shuttle to the International Space Station, where DeNiro is supposed to take down a Russian mobster who's escaped with plans for a super laser. We have a letter from Lady Gaga's people saying we can use one of her songs in the credits. You have to admire a man who walks away, and keeps walking.
