Details: The Good Samaritan-Ambassador nursing home in New Hope is expanding.

Chaska-based nonprofit Community Asset Development Group will build and own the new three-story structure, to be located adjacent to the existing 77-bed nursing home at 8100 Medicine Lake Road. The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, in turn, will lease and operate the 31-unit residential building with an option to buy, developer David Pokorney told the New Hope City Council last month.

The building site is just to the north of the Ambassador facility on a cul-de-sac of Virginia Avenue N. Good Samaritan purchased the property in 2012 and razed two buildings.

The new assisted-living wing will be attached to the nursing home with an at-grade connection. 292 Design Group seeks to tie it visibly to the existing campus yet also differentiate its function and status as residential apartments.

Seven of the 31 units will be set aside as affordable for tenants earning no more than 50 percent of the area median income. This necessitated the City Council's approval of a $534,000 tax increment financing package, the terms of which say the project is to be completed no later than June 30, 2019. Work is scheduled to begin this fall.
