A knockout performance

With Michael B. Jordan starring as the one-dimensional boxing upstart Adonis Creed in "Creed" (PG-13, MGM/Warners), that left it to Sylvester Stallone to play the surprisingly multidimensional Rocky Balboa some 40 years after we met him. Who knew Stallone could act with nuance and depth? He dominates this predictably heartwarming "Rocky" pseudo sequel in an unpredictable way as the trainer for Apollo Creed's son. Stallone is a favorite to pick up a supporting actor Oscar for this role on Sunday. Director Ryan Coogler has long championed Jordan, whom he introduced in 2013's acclaimed "Fruitvale Station." Extras include how Jordan trained to become Adonis.
