Highlights of retailers' price-match policies

Best Buy and Target: Will match prices on purchases from early November to near Christmas -- Dec. 21 for Target and Dec. 24 for Best Buy -- in local stores and select online retailers.

Home Depot and Lowe's: Will match price plus an extra 10 percent discount at checkout, but consumers have had trouble getting the extra 10 percent in some cases, according to Consumerworld.org.

J.C. Penney and Kohl's: Will match local competitors but not its website or any Internet sites.

Sears and Wal-Mart: Will not match prices from Internet-only retailers, such as Amazon.com.

Staples: Will match Amazon prices.

Toys 'R' Us: Will match prices from Amazon and other sites.

Amazon.com: Will match prices on TVs and cellphones at selected sites.
