Somewhat lost amid the other Minnesota music news to surface over the past 18 hours, Prince dropped another new single online last night, and Low premiered a new video this morning.
The Prince track, “Ain’t Gonna Miss U When U’re Gone,” sounds like a “Lovesexy”-era sultry funk romp, and includes New Orleans R&B star Ledisi on guest vocals. Click on the player below to hear the tune.
At one point, His Royalness pulls a Carly Simon out of his ruffled sleeve and slyly growls, “I bet you think this song is about you.” As usual, it’s available as an $.88 download via 3rdEyegirl.com, and it may or may not be included on the new record said to be in the works for the Kobalt Music Group.
Meanwhile, Low issued another beautiful yet haunting video, this one for the previously released single “Plastic Cup,” from the Jeff Tweedy-produced Sub Pop album “The Invisible Way.” The black-and-white clip – set to a song loosely about American drug policies (see: witch-hunt-like hooded figures) -- was directed by L.A. videographer Ryley Fogg, whose credits include camera work for “The Hangover III” and Dave Grohl’s Sound City documentary.
